Say Aloha! to Human Revolution Clothing, a social, economic and environmentally centered Non-Profit founded on Kauai of the Hawaiian Islands. Simply put, this organization is passionate and dedicated to changing the way clothing is made; seed to shirt. Human Revolution Clothing is quickly becoming the change we need to see by weaving together the three worlds of farming, fashion and sustainability. Starting with their pilot project in West India and continuing around the world, Human Revolution Clothing will be setting up its first of many sustainable and organic clothing lines. Every garment made directly supports local rural farmers who have spent the past 3 years transitioning from genetically modified farming practices to organic farming and sustainable methods.

Human Revolution Clothing a global donor-direct 501c3 non-profit who helps direct the profits back into the hands of the people that create their products. They are deeply passionate about giving back to local communities and hold a strong stance on youth education and empowerment. Big plans are on the horizon for Human Revolution Clothing to set up sustainable farming workshops and entrepreneurial classes in communities and schools around the world!

For Human Revolution Clothing, the term “Organic” is only meaningful if every step of the system is aligned with and carried out with Integrity. Their dedication to transparency allows us as consumers to cast a revolutionary vote with our dollars.

By: Samantha Thibault, Jr. Brand Ambassador

You know the saying “third time is a charm”? It sure was for 20 year old Miss Lake County Fair Queen, Brittani Schisler,
who was crowned Miss IL County Fair Queen 2012 in Springfield,IL in January after beating out 69 other lovely young ladies. “I knew I had to keep on trying! I wanted to keep going after I knew in my heart what I wanted most, which was to have the honor of being Miss Lake County Fair Queen. If I had not been so persistent, I would not be where I am today”. I too share the same feeling as Brittani when it comes to being persistent when trying to reach a goal and being yourself. I may not have been a Miss Fair Queen, but being crowned the first Little Miss Lake County Fair Queen at the new fair grounds in 2009, was an honor to me! I couldn’t agree more that being a Fair Queen IS an honor. Brittani is a wonderful young woman that is kind, persistent and has a smile that lights up a room! She will be a senior this fall at Eastern Illinois University majoring in Communication disorders and sciences. Lets continue learning more about Brittani and her journey to becoming Miss IL County Fair Queen….

What pageant experience do you have? I have participated in local pageants since I was eight years old. My mom entered me into my very first pageant, and I have been hooked ever since then! My pageant experiences have provided me with more than I could ever put into words

What is your everyday style? Simple, casual, and cute.

How do you respond to negative comments that are made about pageants? I always stay positive and continue to support how amazing pageants are for young women to be a part of. Pageants provide young women with scholarships, poise, self-confidence, and the opportunity to improve public speaking skills.

You have competed a few times for Miss Lake County Fair queen, what did you do differently this time? I just kept reminding myself that if it were meant to be…it would be.
Having that mindset allowed me to relax, be myself, and have the time of my life!

How did you prepare for the State Fair pageant? Much of my time spent preparing for the state pageant was dedicated to brushing up on facts about the past and present of Illinois agriculture. I also spent much of my time practicing interview skills, impromptu questions, and modeling my wardrobe.

What are the phases of the pageant? Preliminary competition consisted of a private interview, an on-stage, rehearsed one-minute speech, a tasteful one piece swimsuit portion and evening gown portion. Top 15 Finalist competition consisted of a quick private interview, three impromptu questions on stage, same on-stage rehearsed one-minute speech as preliminary competition, one piece swimsuit portion, evening gown, and then… THE CROWNING CEREMONY!

What was your speech about? I decided to do my speech about 4H kids, because they touched my heart with all of their hard work!

What advice would you give to prepare for this pageant? Be confident and be yourself!

What is your role as IL County fair queen? As the 53rd Miss Illinois County Fair Queen, I will be the official hostess of the Illinois and DuQuion State fairs. I will also travel throughout the state this summer to promote county fairs and the state fairs.

You recently spoke in front of the Illinois General Assembly at the state capitol in Springfield, what was that like? It was so exciting! I met many of our state representatives and senators. Also, I delivered a speech on the senate floor advocating for the support and funding to keep Illinois’s county fairs thriving. Such a memorable day!

Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares was born in Venezuela. Her mother, Mary Bridget Colmenares, a housewife, was of Spanish nationality. Her father, Juan Maria Sarcos, was born in Yaracuy and was a professional trader. The youngest of 13 children, Ivian was nicknamed Lunasol by her mother. Ivian was made an orphan at the age of eight, resulting in her moving to a convent school run by the ‘Sacred Heart of Jesus’ Congregation of Sisters in the city of San Carlos, Cojedes State. Ivian’s stay at the boarding school helped her to become a responsible young woman. She was a model student with strong values and regarded everyone around her in the convent as her family. Ivian excelled in her studies and at the age of 15 she began an academic career, studying at the Graduate Institute of Agricultural Technology IUTEAGRO whilst working to fund her education. Ivian set her sights on the capital, and in 2007 with very little money, Ivian went in search of a new career. She began working in Caracas, commuting daily from her home in the Valles del Tuy. In 2008, she was accepted into the Universidad Central de Venezuela and moved to Parroquia El Valle in the capital. Ivian is still in regular contact with the nuns from the convent and often sends them gifts.

On April 19, 2012 the Miss World Organization was lucky enough to catch up with Ivian in London and asked her a few questions about her Miss World journey so far…

You have just come back from Cannes, how did you find it?
Ivian: It was a truly amazing trip, I learnt so much and had the opportunity to attend the red carpet opening for MIPTV, talk to some very well-known people and form some good relationships.

You have already traveled to lots of countries, do you have a favorite, or is there anywhere you haven’t been to that you would really like to visit? Ivian: It’s hard to choose just one country. I still have trips to new countries to come so I wouldn’t say that I have a favourite right now! Every country has its own unique qualities – its culture, food, people and customs – but I would really like to visit South Africa.

Many people have told me that I should go – it would be so different to what I’m used to. What do you miss most when you are away from Venezuela? Ivian: Almost everything! I have an incredible amount of love for my country, my people, the food etc. I miss going for a run on the weekends, I used to exercise by a famous mountain called ‘El Avila’ where you can just totally disconnect from the outside world.

What sort of things do you enjoy doing when you have time to relax? Ivian: On the rare occasions that I have some free time, I attend English classes. But when I’m not in school, I really like to relax, watch television and read – I love reading all kinds of books. I also enjoy going for a walk or a run with the dog, without makeup or heels etc, just completely relaxed.

What advice would you give to the next Miss World? Ivian: I would say, truly make the most of this opportunity, and make sure that everything you do as Miss World, you do from the heart. There is nothing more beautiful than going about your work and activities with a big smile.

How do you feel being showcased as Tiara Magazine’s Model of the Week? Sherrie (Tiara Magazine’s editor) knows many remarkable models with a lot of talent; so I feel extremely honored to be showcased as Tiara Magazine’s Model of the Week!

Are you a runway model or print model? Which do you prefer? I dabble in a little bit of both worlds. I prefer to do print because there is more out there for us shorty’s in that department, but there’s nothing like strutting your stuff on the runway!

What do you like about modeling? I love that modeling is a bit like dress-up for grown-ups! One day you may be a pirate, the next a 1920’s flapper, or maybe just yourself! I had always loved playing dress-up as a girl, so to be paid to do what you love is great!

What do you say to all the haters out there? Do you let them rain on your parade? All the haters out there are just jealous. I don’t let them rain on my parade; I feel sorry for them! They spend so much time hating that they never get anywhere themselves; it’s sad really.

How can you help others become a model like you? What advice would you give? I would like to tell models that there are plenty of ways to get pictures taken for free to start your portfolio by searching for photographers in your area that need to take pictures as well. Colleges are usually a good place to look for photographers too. DO NOT pay for pictures, it is usually a scam! Also, if an agency thinks you have enough talent they will pay for your pictures; do not pay them!

What has this industry taught you? This industry has taught me a lot about patience and taking in positive criticism. With modeling there are a lot of long days with waiting and then hurrying and then waiting some more, so you have to be able to entertain yourself and be patient. There also tends to be some criticism that comes along with bettering yourself in the modeling world, and you need to learn to take it with stride. If the criticism comes from a fellow model you may want to be wary of negative criticism, yet take it into consideration because there are nice models out there. However, if the criticism comes from someone like a talent coordinator you may want to take it to heart, because it is most likely helpful advice.

What modeling experience do you have with Tiara Magazine? I have been in the Live Out Loud Charity Fashion Show for the past two years now and cannot wait for this year’s show! They are always so much fun and help such a great cause! I have also been included in Tiara Magazine’s coverage of these shows!

What modeling experience do you have in general? Most of my experience comes from being a promotional spokes model. I have done a few hair shows for both product and style presentations. As I had mentioned before I have been in the Live Out Loud Charity Fashion Show twice now and I am looking forward to this years also!

Do you have any pageantry or acting experience? I do not have any pageantry experience, but I was almost a principle in a Meijer commercial! I made it to shooting day and got paid for that, but there ended up being too many principles, so I got pulled. Next time I’ll get it!

Who are your favorite designers? I really like Vera Wang, because everything she makes is so elegant! I have also recently discovered Lululemon which has the most comfortable, yet durable yoga wear!

Favorite makeup brands? There are quite a few good brands; I like Bare Minerals and MAC for all their fun eye shadow colors!

Favorite shoes you like to wear out and about? My favorite shoes to wear out and about at the moment, especially in the snow, are my Moon Boots! They are sparkly and comfortable; what more could a girl want?

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers? I would like to tell readers that the sky is really the limit! If you want to do something with your life, go for it! You may not get it on the first try, but practice makes perfect, and if you keep trying you will get there if YOU believe in YOU!

Tell us about your title? I currently hold the Miss Colorado US International title which is a state qualifier to the Miss United States International pageant held June 14-16th in Orlando, Florida. This title will allow me to represent my home state Colorado in the official national pageant and presents me with a chance to be the USA representative in Miss International.

How can you describe your experience as a state titleholder? So far, my experiences as a state titleholder have been very rewarding. Every day, I have opportunities to make a difference in my community. I have been visiting children in schools and encouraging them to further their education and focus on their life goals. I have also been involved in fund raisers for many children centers and other non-profits. I am always looking for opportunities that allow me to spend time with children and show them how much they matter because after all they will be the future leaders of our nation and it is important to be there for them every step of the way.

Why did you choose this pageant system over any other pageant system? I chose this pageant system because it values international sensibility. Given my diverse background, I want to make a difference not only nationally but also internationally. My goal as a titleholder is to promote a more serene and beautiful world and bring together all the different cultures. And I think this pageant system is a perfect fit for my life goals and will help me become the ideal “Ambassador of peace and beauty”.

What has been the highlight of your year? The highlight of my year was my trip to East Africa with Mission to Heal organization. I am happy and honored to be part of a great medical team whose purpose is to treat patients who have no access to healthcare as well as train local healthcare workers in developing countries. This recent medical mission has been the highlight of my year because not only did I put my medical skills into use and helped heal and give hope to many unfortunate people but I also learned from them. Being in Kenya and South Sudan for a couple of weeks has changed a lot about how I see life. This experience has taught me that we should stop wasting our time complaining about things we don’t have, because there is always someone out there who needs what you have.

What are your future pageantry goals? My future pageantry goals include working towards becoming a state director. I would love to share my experiences and skills that I acquired during my competitions with the future young contestants and help make their dreams come true.

What is your former pageantry experience? My former pageantry experiences include participating in the Miss Colorado USA and making top 15. I had a lot of fun and met some of the greatest women that have become my closest friends.

What advice can you give others wanting to compete and win in pageants? The most important advice I can give others wanting to win in pageants is: Be yourself! The judges can definitely tell when you are trying to be someone else just to impress them. Be confident and be proud of who you are and your accomplishments. Don’t ever compare yourself to other contestants because everyone is unique in their own way.

What is your modeling experience? My modeling experience includes few fashion shows for local boutiques and for charity fund raisers.

Do you prefer modeling or pageantry? If I had to choose between modeling and pageantry, I would choose pageantry because it involves inner and outer beauty. Being a pageant queen requires you to bring out your best inner self and to show your fans your goodwill, beauty, intelligence and your ability to take action.

What do you say to the haters out there? Do you let them rain on your parade? What I can say to the haters out there is: “Hating won’t change anything about me, but changes everything about you”. In life I have clear objectives and I never lose sight of them. Therefore, I do not let “haters” rain on my parade. I think of them more as a boost to my motivation. Sometimes the only way people can feel powerful and successful is by bringing others down. And I definitely do not let that ruin my life ambitions and dreams. I know myself and I am very proud to be where I am today, and I do not let anyone define me.

Tell us something about pageantry etiquette that our readers should know? The most important thing about pageantry etiquette is to not think of pageants as the cat fight for a crown. When you are going into your first pageant, you should above all be friendly and respectful. Try to be social and build good relationships with other contestants because you might need their support later on. Also, do not get distracted by side talks. Stay focused on your goal and enjoy the ride to achieving it.

Do you get nervous before you compete and if so how do you handle those nerves? Yes, it is only normal to get nervous before any big day. And what helps me handle those nerves is meditating. Meditating helps clear my mind and keep me calm. Once all other thoughts are cleared out of my head, I start focusing on one main thought: Winning.

What is your favorite area of competition? My favorite area of competition is the interview portion because it presents me with the opportunity to show the judges that there is more than just this pretty smile. During the interview, the judges learn about the contestant’s inner beauty, accomplishments, life ambitions, personality and much more that can’t be figured out on stage. So the interview portion is my favorite area of any competition because I get to share my story.

Describe your pageant style? My pageant style is simple and flattering. I tend to avoid the shiny, glittery and too revealing gowns because you want the judges to remember you, not your clothes.

Describe your every day style? My every day style is modern and classy. I like sporting current fashion trends and won’t mind wearing vintage items as long as they are worn in a modern way.

What are some of your personal accomplishments? I recently graduated from college with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After my graduation, I was proud to be picked out of 700 applicants to intern with a biomedical company in Munich, Germany. After spending three months working in Germany and touring Europe, I was accepted in both Queen Mary School of London and at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus to start a Masters of Science in Biomedical Engineering. It was a very hard decision to make, but I ended up coming back to Colorado and accepting the CU offer. I am currently completing my masters in biomedical engineering as well as a certificate in Bio-innovation entrepreneurship. I am also proud to be the Co-president of the students for global health organization which allowed me to go on my recent medical mission to Africa.

Is there anything else you would like to include for our readers? I want the readers out there to know that it is important to stay strong and never lose hope on making your dreams come true. Legends aren’t born but created, and with little faith everyone can feel what it is like to be legendary. My parents have always taught me to stay positive and chase after my dreams because if I can dream it, I can do it. Don’t make losing seem easy. Keep trying and keep your head up because the world is yours.

Tell us about your recent win as Mrs. Corporate America 2012? Participating in the Mrs. Corporate America has been an experience I will never forget. It has given me the opportunities to not only grow personally and professionally, but also to meet many wonderful professional women. The workshop provided for us was really an eye opener for me because it gave me a window to my future goals and aspiration. The respect, professionalism, and attention displayed by members of the Mrs. Corporate America was impressive.

How many times did you compete for the title before you won? If you are a returning contestant, what inspired you to keep trying? This is my first time I have participated in a pageant.

What is your platform and why did you choose it? My platform is to inspire women to be accomplished leaders in the workplace through public communication. I have chosen this platform because being a wife, a mother of four daughters and a business owner, I know the challenges that women could experience in the workplace, whether they own a business or are in leadership roles.

Do you think all titleholders should have a platform even if the pageant doesn’t require it? I do believe that titleholder should have a platform. It is my belief that the reason for holding a title is to take advantage of the exposure that the title brings in order to help others.

How did you prepare yourself for this pageant? I really think that contestants have different methods of preparing for a pageant. For me, other than the physical preparation, mental stability is very important. My approach to prepare for the pageant was to maintain focus and be myself.

How have you grown as an individual now that you have won the title as Mrs. Corporate America 2012? The ability to participate with many professional women was a very refreshing experience. I learned that women could be supportive of each other and work for the same common goal even if they do not get recognition.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I want to continue to see myself mentoring women in leadership roles and help them accomplish goals through public communication.

What was the most memorable moment at the pageant, besides the crowning moment of your title? The most memorable moments at the pageant are the times that I got the opportunity to interact with the contestants and get to form relationships with them.

What does it mean to hold the title you have with The Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Organization? I believe that holding the title of Mrs. Corporate America means that I will be not only representing the Mrs. Corporate America Organization, but also empowering professional women to achieve goals that they never thought the could achieve.

Why did you choose the Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Pageant over any other pageant system? The reason I chose Mrs. Corporate America Pageant is because of what it represents, women in leadership roles, “highlighting women’s achievements in the community and the workplace.”

What insight(s) can you give about this competition so other girls and women can feel prepared? In order to prepare for this competition, women should be true to themselves, and have a clear and concise understanding of what they stand for. They should be able to communicate about what makes them unique in their professions in order for them to stand out from the rest.

What is your definition of success? My definition of success is to be strong spiritually, be able to sustain and build relationships and lastly to maintain a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

What three words best describe you? Energetic, Focused, and self motivated.

What accomplishments you which to achieve during your reign? During my reign I would like to meet as many women as I can, to empower them to achieve their goals, and instill in them that because we are women we can achieve anything we set our minds to. I will also like to be a positive influence in my community to promote women in leadership roles through public communication.

As Mrs. Corporate America 2012, how are you going to assist with leveraging/growing The Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Organization and why is this important to you? I will be assisting with the growth of the Mrs. Corporate America organization by speaking to groups of women in leadership roles about my platform. I will educate them as to what is Mrs. Corporate America and how the organization has made me realize how important it is for women to promote and support each other especially when they are in a leadership role.

What was your on-stage question during the pageant and your answer? My on-stage question was “how would you define success?” My answer was “I define success by your own spirituality because we all have to answer to a higher authority, relationships because having a good relationship with your family, friends and other type of relationships are key and lastly maintaining good health because without it we could not accomplish anything.”

If you could turn back time and change one thing during the pageant what would you like to change? I would enjoy the pageant a lot more without being nervous about the process.

~ Thank You ~

(Who would you like to thank)…
I would like to thank my family, the Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Organization, and my sponsor Dedra Curtis for allowing me to represent and promote women in leadership roles.

Her-story

Since the early 1960′s, women have worked hard to climb up the corporate ladder or build their own business. Their roles have merged from homemaker/custodian to executive CEO’s of fortune 500 companies. Their enduring strength and determination have provided an outlet for women to excel in the workplace. A woman’s evolution into the mainstream corporate world has led to the renaissance of the Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Pageant. The Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Pageant is the only unique pageantry system that empowers professional women across America. The introduction of this pageant has made her-story and created a mark that can never be erased.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Chicago. After living in the city for five years, working for the Chicago White Sox and for the City of Chicago as well as making lots of friends during grad school, I fell in love with the city. The mass transit system, the people, and the diverse cultural experience are wonderful.

If you could meet anyone in the world, who would they be? Rachel Ray! We are both in the service industry. Her spunk, style and talents are amazing. Although she lives in NY, her dad is from Louisiana originally, so she’s got to have some Southern in her. I love how she is always smiling and cracking jokes. When I am in NY again, I hope I will get to see her. And…. Bill Cowher. He coached with passion throughout his career. I love how he led the Steelers to the Superbowl with such zest. Hopefully, one day I will have the honor to meet him. After all, we actually both went to NC State, we love the Steelers, and we live in Raleigh. Maybe he will come get haircut at my salon one day?

What was the best advice you have ever been given? Sometimes we catch ourselves complaining about something. One time, one of my business mentors replied to one of my text messages, “It’s always an opportunity.” When things get tough, I try re-evaluating the situation by making it better, a learning opportunity, or a chance to show my strengths.

Who is your role model and why? Mom! She arrived to America with a baby (me) and a little red, plaid suitcase. She struggled with poverty, adversity, and other challenges that come with arriving in a new country. After years of working in factories, she paid her way through trade school and opened up her own business. There have been other obstacles she has overcome, but she has put her kids through college and kept herself healthy and happy. No matter how hard she works, she still makes time to ballroom dance. She reminds all of us women to take a moment to take care of ourselves and to follow our passions.

What is something interesting about you? I once studied abroad in Peru and faced many challenges that included: getting lost; having a roommate who broke her toe; and, running out of money. Luckily, I found my way back, wrapped my roommate’s toe up, and was entrepreneurial. Since I did not want to take cash out of my account, I borrowed a hair-cutting cape and shears from a cashier lady at an ice cream shop in Lima, Peru. She happened to tell me that she studied cosmetology. I started cutting hair on my trip throughout Peru and made enough money to eat, shop, and to come back to America. I thanked her after I returned her cape and shears at the end of the trip. Three years later, I walked into her ice cream shop and she gave me the biggest Peruvian hug and kiss!

What three words best describe you? Entrepreneurial, Resilient, Congenial

What is your favorite book? The Professional Communications Toolkit by Dr. Joel Whalen. He has been called The World’s Foremost Authority on Business Communication and I had the honor to have him as my professor. Dr. Whalen has an amazing and engaging personality and he has coached many of us to effectively write and deliver e-mails, “Thank You” letters and speeches.

Tell us about your book and why you wanted to write it? During graduate school, I was asked a lot of questions about networking. At that time, I was not able to answer those questions. Over the course of four years, I recorded most of my networking experiences. From those experiences, I have developed seven principles that answer those same questions asked during grad school. In order to present these principles in an entertaining way, I combined the formats of The Diary of Anne Frank, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and my own creativity to come up with a format for The Networking Diary.
The Networking Diary contains 7 networking principles that will change your life. Inspired by questions about networking while getting an MBA, the book features stories from real-life networking with business professionals. At the end of each chapter, you will have an exercise that will help you with your networking.

This is not a “how to network book.” Rather, it presents amazing insights from networking gurus you would otherwise not get to meet. People like Ali Brown (AliBrown.com), Mary Cantando (WomansAdvantage.biz), Fabienne Frederickson (ClientAttraction.com), Ivan Misner (IvanMisner.com), and Joel Whalen (JoelWhalen.com).mIf want to master networking success, learn and apply the simple networking secrets they reveal in The Networking Diary. These people know what it takes to succeed and they want to share it with you. Learn their secrets to get an edge when networking.

Out of all the important subjects in business, why did you choose the subject networking for your book? My parents arrived in Raleigh, NC with a little red plaid suitcase and me. Families from St. Raphael’s Church helped my immigrant family find our first apartment, job, and baby crib. I thank all the people who never judged me for how little I had but instead appreciated me for how much I wanted to give. The Networking Diary could not have been written without the help of D. Joel Whalen, Ph.D., who not only served as my professor at DePaul University Kellstadt Graduate School of Business but who also encouraged and challenged me throughout my academic program. DePaul’s faculty members, friends, and fellow entrepreneurs have encouraged me to proceed fearlessly. I thank the DePaul MBA Association, Alpha Kappa Psi’s Tau Chi chapter, and the Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Pageant for giving me the opportunity to serve your organizations. To all the friends I made while living in Chicago, you continue to inspire me. To all my friends in Raleigh, thank you for cultivating my Southern values and for allowing me to be a Wolfpack. To all my friends worldwide, I think of you often and thank you for sharing your time with me. To all of my hair clients worldwide, thank you for sharing your stories with me. To a special client, Tanya Stockton, and her business colleague, Maryellen Smith, thank you for guiding me through the publishing process, never accepting less than my best efforts. To all of my friends and colleagues at corporate, The Chicago White Sox, The City of Chicago’s DHR, and Sweet T Salon, thank you for providing me with unique conversations. To every single person who’s shared time to read this book or network with me—thank you.

As Ms. Corporate America 2011, how did this title assist you on achieving your goals? It has been a great honor to meet many of today’s entrepreneurs and represent professional and philanthropic women. My reign as Ms. Corporate America 2011 has provided me a chance to learn more about being an entrepreneur in today’s economic environment. According to the Gazelle Index, while government policymakers are scrambling to find ways how small businesses and startups can create more jobs, women business owners have been largely overlooked. Of the nation’s 27.1 million small businesses, 29% are owned by women. We must pay more attention to women’s businesses. Otherwise, we risk overlooking a significant part of the entire small business sector thereby failing to solve the unemployment problem in the most efficient manner.

Last year, I launched my Sweet T brand. The brand celebrates diversity in the South- where Country Comes in all Colors. Although I have traveled the world, I have always stayed true to my blue-collar and Southern roots. My goal is to create the “Benetton of the South”. Owning a small business has enabled me to hire 10 employees, collaborate with the Small Business and Technology Center (SBTDC), and support several causes (i.e. Breast Cancer Awareness, SPCA, ArtReach 4 Kids, and Cervical Cancer Awareness). I challenge all small business owners to always give back to the communities in which they live. After Mrs. Black North Carolina 2011, the NC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the community helped with Sweet T’s grand opening, the MCA gave me the confidence to seize unique opportunities.

What are you doing now since your reign has ended?
Beauty: Sweet T Salon is going to have its 1st birthday in one month. I hope to plan a “Birthday Beach Bash/Book Signing” for the community. My focus is to continue to brand Sweet T and to expand as the “Benetton of the South”.
Business: The Networking Diary was just cataloged in North Carolina State’s library. I hope to have my book available in universities worldwide. When the book is translated into Spanish and put in an audio format, I will be able to reach more markets.
Philanthropy:
This week, I am speaking at the Women’s Power Networking Power Lunch. It is exciting, because previously, women like Elaine Marshall, NC’s Secretary of State have spoken. My mission is to help entrepreneurial women worldwide to network with passion and purpose and look great doing it. I also challenge entrepreneurs to have a philanthropic element their business. My Big Audacious Hair Goal (BAHG) is to be a role model for young entrepreneurs. I hope that The Networking Diary, Sweet T, and my other projects will help people worldwide. As a 1st Generation American trilingual entrepreneur, I hope to continue to create useful tools for entrepreneurs to succeed.
