Jake Marchewka
Height: 6’0
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown/Green
How do you feel being showcased as Tiara Magazine’s Model of the Week?
- A little surprised actually! It’s my first time being published as a model in a magazine. I certainly hope it’s not the last either. Sherrie Gearheart does great work with the magazine so I’m excited to be apart of her work!
Are you a runway model or print model? Which do you prefer?
- I do both. Runway is a lot of fun and I get to work with some great and interesting people. Print work is also fun because I get to express myself in front of the camera. As far as my personal preference goes, I’d have to say runway. I love being in front of a crowd.
What do you like about modeling?
- I love the type of people you meet. I’ve met some of the coolest people through modeling. Every once in awhile there’s a few “screwballs” but honestly it makes for good stories later.
What do you say to all the haters out there? Do you let them rain on your parade?
- You know whenever I heard the term “haters” I never really understood what people meant when they said it. Now I do. I never had a lot of support while in this business. People who said there was no point, I’m good enough, I’ll never get that agency contract I’ve been looking for. But the way I see it, each photo shoot, runway show, or email from an agency I get brings me one step closer to proving them wrong.
How can you help others become a model like you? What advice would you give?
- Honestly speaking. I don’t see myself as something special. I have friends who are way higher up on the scale of modeling than I am. However my advice to anybody be it teens, people my age, people older than me and even parents who want to get their kids started is to be real with yourself. The modeling/acting field is a business which means that there will be disappointment. Maybe you didn’t get that job you wanted or didn’t get a call back from the casting agent. I have been rejected dozens of times. However that does NOT mean that you should give up. The more you put yourself out there, the more likely someones gonna notice you. You don’t have to be good looking in this field to get jobs. And this is coming from a skinny, scruffy haired dude whose done a lot of modeling work and has friends in the best agencies in the world. Your time will come if you keep going.
What has this industry taught you?
- I think anyone who had been in this industry for any period of time can tell you that modeling teaches you patience, humility, and most importantly acceptance of disappointment. Like anything in life, there will always be times where you are disappointed. And things will get hard. I can say that there are so many times that I want to say screw it, and never come back. But somehow you get through it. I don’t know how but we as humans manage to overcome it. And that is what modeling taught me.
What modeling experience do you have with Tiara Magazine?
- I was featured in Live Out Loud Charity (fashion show) last October. It was a suicide prevention and awareness charity runway show. I had a small audio part in that show that told my story in relation to depression.
What modeling experience do you have in general?
- I’ve done runway and print work for a few years now. I’m no professional, though I’m working my way toward it.
Do you have any acting experience?
- I’m actually just starting to get into it. I’m taking an Acting class at my college right now. After I get some experience I hope to do some commercial work.
Who are your favorite designers?
- Outside of modeling I mainly bum around in sweats and jeans. But when I dress up I typically go with what I can afford. Which isn’t much really, I think my most expensive shirt is a button up shirt from American Eagle. Being in college and hungry all the time really takes a toll on your wardrobe budget.
Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
- Keep at it and watch out for scams. There are people out there who want your money. Educate yourself before signing anything. Also don’t give up because someone said you don’t have the ability. If you think you have what it takes, work to improve it and make it noticed. Eventually someone will notice. Fortune favors the bold.
