HALFSTACK MANIFESTO
Half Stack Magazine is the brainchild of myself (Jennifer Lezan) and my 2 close friends from fashion school (Mariana Quaranta & Kate Roth). With over 3 years of journalism under my belt and some great experience designing zines for local indie magazines such as Factio and Tiara – I along with Mariana and Kate have decided that it was about time to pull our wits together and make some (thing) happen. We have noticed a need in the editorial business to bring people information and style that is attainable, ethical and meets our literary needs in Chicago. We love Vogue, we love Vanity Fair, We love Harpers, we love GQ, Times, W and of course zines like Venuszine, Bitch and Covert and so many more, but what many of them lack is attainability. We may love the fashion in Vogue, but we never ever will be able to afford it NOR will we sit there and drop a G on a bag! We love fashion magazines, but they never give us enough intellectual stimulation or inform us of what is going on in the world or even the city at times. We love interiors, but can not afford to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to make over our places. We also noticed a lack in good editorial material in Chicago based on Chicago that meets all the above requirements as well as showcases rising talent and gives young people advice on how to follow their dreams.
Sure, many Chicago Magsi a great read, but again, they cater to the upwardly mobile and we want to give the regular young professionals who are just trying to make it in this city some attention. We also noticed a lack in a magazine that gave as much to the girls as it did the boys which is why each issue is dedicated to the boys as well as the girls. In Halfstack, you’ll learn about everything from cultural events in Chicago, museums you should visit, new restaurants to check out, and of course highlights on and interviews with new up and coming indie designers, musicians, artists and other professionals. Finally, we also have sections dealing with the “facts of life” – Politics – finances – what is going on in the world! Stuff that any young person NEEDS to and should know about. Overall, we started with the idea of a fashion zine and ended up being a cultural mammoth dedicated to people like us in Chicago. We want to help others follow their dreams while inspiring other young people to go down the path less taken.

OVERVIEW:
We are looking to get placement for our event on local blogs as well as potential television coverage if possible. We are working on gaining exposure and getting hits to the following sites in order help raise funds for kickstarter, promote the go live date for our site and finally to get bodies into the door of our launch party (which is cause related)
Key Links: Kickstarter – we are utilizing this funding venue to help pay for our first print issue, finalize our website and cover any additional costs of launch.
